Investor Seeks Cambodian Justice Ministry’s Intervention in YY Capital Case

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — An investor in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has called on Cambodian authorities to intervene in a dispute with the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, alleging serious financial misconduct and breaches of trust.

In letters submitted to the Ministry of Justice and other officials, the investor claims that Yamada, a Japanese national and chairman of the board, orchestrated actions that caused significant financial losses. Allegations include manipulation of multiple real estate transactions in Cambodia, with preliminary investigations suggesting that roughly $4 million was misappropriated for personal benefit and that of associates.

The investor further alleges that Yamada created fictitious business transactions, including loans exceeding $7 million, forged documents, and diverted large sums of cash through shell companies controlled by him and alleged accomplices. Some of these funds were reportedly transferred to an overseas account in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.

According to the letters, Yamada also established shell companies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, using nominees while retaining direct control over bank accounts and financial transactions linked to these entities.

The investor notes that Cambodian prosecutors have filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others, and court orders have frozen assets and bank accounts. Authorities in multiple jurisdictions, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, are reportedly investigating related allegations of embezzlement, money laundering, document forgery, and breach of trust.

The letters urge Cambodian courts and authorities to conduct thorough and transparent investigations, warning that interference could allow suspects to evade accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
